Common Core Standards
Kentucky has chosen to adopt the Common Core standards, along with 48 other states. This means that in each of these states, students will be asked to learn the same skills that have been carefully planned to prepare students for college and careers in our changing world.
You are welcome to view the standards, but be assured, the teachers at OCHS have worked hard to make sure these standards will be met in each of our courses.
Technology
One of the key parts of the new Common Core standards is the emphasis on student use of technology. Students will be asked to use a variety of technology in their college and career paths, so it makes sense to show them how to use different forms of technology, and the smartest ways to do so. As part of my commitment to this, I've created class websites for students to use with various assignments during the year.
Here are links to the class wikis I've created. Right now they are pretty empty, but throughout the school year we will use these in a variety of ways to help students better their reading, writing, and technology skills.
Parents and guardians, you will be asked to sign a form giving your child permission to use these sites. Please note that personal information is not part of these sites - they are for the creation and display of student work only.
Parent letter and permission form. Students will also be given paper copies of these documents.
